CNC Router CDR Design is Ready!!!

Router 102 Profile

We had our “PDR” Design review last Friday and have made a few changes and added the X Axis bed to the Gantry design.

The CNC Router CDR Design review is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Tuesday the 25th of February.

We want the CNC Router completed and up and running by Open House that is March 23rd.

This will hopefully be the final design review for the first iteration of PaxSpace’s CNC Router.

After the design review, Parts will be ordered and a build party will be scheduled.

If you do not come to the CDR, Do not complain your voice was not heard.

CDR Design material can be found on the wiki page.

Thanks for coming out to the Blender Class

I would like to extend a big thank you to all who attended this class. It was my first attempt at teaching a technical subject (not a teacher by trade…) and all in all I believe the class turned out to be a good intro to Blender. We had a great turnout for such a short notice and I plan on having this class again in the near term. I will be sending notifications to all members and non-members who have signed up on our website. So If you haven’t already, go and make an account (free accounts get notifications too!) to get the alerts!

Lots of little tips were introduced throughout the class. I’m no expert in Blender but knowing these basics will make further learning and experimentation a much more fun process!

To summarize the important parts of the class:

It was a lot to cover in 2 hours but we finished rather quickly and I’ve received great feedback from students… So be prepared for more of them to show up on the Events List and Calendar!

Intro to Arduino Part 1 of 2

This is the intro to the Arduino microcontroller  and electronics in general.  No electronics experience is required.

Part 1, will be 1 1/2 hours long from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, with time afterword for open experimentation.

Date: Monday, February 24th, 2014

The class will start with basic electronics and then programming the Arduino microcontroller.

There is room for 10 students working in pairs.

Please register. If the class is fully registered, Only registered members may attend. If there are slots open, the remaining student slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

New Class – Intro to Blender!

Everyone’s heard of using Sketchup, Solidworks or AutoCAD to do some sort of computer aided design. The one that is often left out is Blender, usually because of its unfamiliar and very feature rich (read bad) interface . I hope this class will be a start to rectify that notion.

So what is Blender? As their website states,

… Blender is a free and open source 3D animation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation. Advanced users employ Blender’s API for Python scripting to customize the application and write specialized tools; often these are included in Blender’s future releases …

This class will mainly focus on the Modeling aspect of Blender and how it can be used to create objects that can then be 3d printed.

So stop on by your local Makerspace and attend our new class.

Both members and non-members are welcome! Be sure to sign up!

PaxSpace Sponsorships

It’s hard to believe that it has been only 6 months since we first came up with the idea of PaxSpace outside of Paul’s cube.  Within a few weeks of that first discussion we were already signing a lease and a month later opening our doors.  Since then we have grown quickly to over 30 members working on a wide range of exciting projects including a space-sponsored CNC router.  Our 3D printer is up and running with a few classes already behind us.  PaxSpace Kids had its first event last month with every seat booked with another one coming this month on the 15th.

So what’s next for PaxSpace?  Sponsorships!  In order to continue to grow our class catalog and add more equipment to the space we are looking hard for sources of income beyond our membership.  Our board is working hard to find potential sponsors through our own connections but we are also looking to our members, friends, and anyone else that believes in what we are doing to help us too.  If you feel like you might want to be a sponsor or might know of someone else please reach out to us.  We also ask that you keep an eye on our website for upcoming events and classes as we continue to grow.
